Hoarding has its rewards

I've almost got a full house for my bookbinding class at Oregon College of Art & Craft in a couple of weeks, so I'm checking out the supply situation. In my late-night digs around the studio, I came upon a bunch of already-cut text paper and cover cloth. So now, thankfully, I won't have to (find and) order more bookcloth like I'd feared, especially because I still miss Aiko's so much.

We got all dressed up for the photo shoot

That is, A Tango with Ataturk did.

I am forever flummoxed by tabletop photography but have come to realize Photoshop is something I can't continue to resist, especially if I want to open the Etsy shop. And I have excellent teachers!

Here's the semifinalists for the www site, including

a face-to-face encounter

a look inside the binding -----------v

v----- a full-length shot with cover

v----- a detail of the pressure printing, images of the shoe shapes used in old-fashioned dance diagrams. These shapes do their own dance through the pages of A Tango with Ataturk.

Here's some wood type & the colophon

and a possible new image for the www masthed (Be Mine is so Been There)

To apply or not to apply

That's my Portland Open Studios question.

Pros: About a hundred people more found out about my work than otherwise would. It's fun meeting people and turning them on to bookbinding, if only in very small ways. I'm forced to clean up my studio.

Cons: Sales weren't stellar. Some people were more interested in anything but my work. I have no shortage of other projects. I'm forced to clean up my studio.

With applications due soon, I've got to decide. For sure, if I did apply I'd only go for the open-one-weekend option.
